Commissions - Custom Painted Portraits

Paula Novak has one of those rare gifts in art, the ability to paint photo-realistically and to capture the curves and proportions of the human body and face in every life-like nuance.

Portraits
Have your own wonderful unique original custom painted portrait. Paula has the passion and ability to bring together the individual physical and spiritual essence of each person, creating a beautiful heirloom that will last for generations.

Paula as a portrait painting artist also specializes in creating a storybook surreal world in portraiture as well as standard traditional interpretations. You can include elements of fantasy and have any background you choose.

Procedure
Whether you choose a traditional or fantasy portrait, there are a few requirements needed to create your masterpiece.

• A minimum of 2 good quality photographs of the subjects you are wanting painted. If you are sending them via email the images need to be 600dpi. to ensure a great result. We can also work with you and take photographs on your behalf if you live locally. Either you can come to Paula Novak’s studio, or we can come to you.
• An indepth discussion on the imagery you are wanting to portray. This includes the background setting, clothing, artifacts, pose etc.
• The size of the canvas required.

Pricing
This will vary considerably depending on what is required. For instance:

• A painting with minimal background will cost less than a more detailed one.
• A black and white painting will cost less than a full colored one.
• The size and depth of a canvas.

Portraits start at $895 for a black and white head shot approx. 15cms X 20cms
A full -colored image the same size (15cms X 20cms) starts at $980 (eg ‘Frangipani Girl’)

Shipping costs, travel expenses, (if required) and taxes are not included in the price.

Material
Paula uses boxed canvas, flat canvas and quality watercolor paper for her works. We use premium acid free cotton duck canvas that has been sized with gesso. All stretched boxed canvases have a staple -free edge.

The watercolor paper is premium acid-free archival Bockingford.
The gsm (thickness) ranges from 150 – 300gsm.

Contract
A contract will be signed to ensure the agreement is adhered to by both parties. A draft drawing of the content must be approved by the client before Paula begins putting brush to canvas. Once the contract is settled and signed, Paula will sketch out the initial image agreed upon, and as soon as the client approves, a 50% downpayment is required. As soon as the painting is completed to the client’s satisfaction, the remaining 50% payment is paid to Paula Novak. The artwork is then posted to the client.

Packaging
All works are packaged carefully using bubblewrap and good cardboard.
